Principal’s Update

Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau,

It has been fantastic seeing the rocket experiments in action this week. The learning conversations around force and the science that is taking place is great way to experience hands on, real learning. Scientists in the making at our kura (school).

Kumara harvesting—Lisa Rapana, Tania (from Whaingaroa Enviro Centre), myself and our Middle Room Enviro representatives were able to harvest our kumara on Tuesday. We got a large haul. It really was like going on a treasure hunt. We have looked at the best way of storing these so we can enjoy them at our Matariki shared kai which we have had to move the dates for.

Please note we have a change of date for our Matariki shared kai which is now 22nd June—12.15pm

Just a reminder about the Waitetuna Trail Run—last week I mentioned that every year we have a large fundraising event called the Waitetuna Trail Run. Last year it was decided by the Trail Run Committee, School Board and PTA that the Trail Run would not go ahead in 2021 due to the Covid settings, and be postponed until November of 2022. Hamish and Julie Ormond allow the Waitetuna Trail Run to happen on their farm. This year the current Trail Run Committee would like to step down and be able to transition a new crew into this role. This is a varied role and your commitment to this doesn’t need to be huge. The Trail Run’s future is dependent on our school community getting involved. You will have support to run this and without this event our school’s funding would be depleted. Let’s get behind this school and community event. Please contact Julie Ormond - 0272725502 for more information.

We remain Covid free as a school. It is still imperative that your child stays at home if unwell. Reminder—we have some Covid tests available at school if you require some.

Please email office or Principal and we can get some to you.

If your child’s plans need to change please let the office know. Children are not able to pass on these messages without the back up of an email or phone call from caregivers.

Have a great weekend.

Ngaa mihi Amanda and staff.
